Norris McKenzie
Chief of Investigations Division
Norris Mckenzie, the Chief of the Investigations Division. Chief Mckenzie joined the Travis County District Attorney’s Office in 2017 and assumed the duties as Chief in 2018.
Chief Mckenzie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of West Alabama and is a retiree of the Austin Police Department. Chief Mckenzie served 28 years at the Austin Police Department and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. While at the Austin Police Department, Chief Mckenzie managed such Divisions as Child Abuse, Sex Crimes, Gangs, and DEA and FBI Federal Task Forces.
Under Chief Mckenzie’s leadership, investigators are assigned to trial teams or specialized units within the Travis County District Attorney’s Office based on training and experience. The Investigation Division is staffed by investigators who are certified Texas Peace Officers. Their primary responsibilities include assisting the prosecutors in evaluating and preparing trial cases.
