Travis County Jury Convicts Man Charged with Two Counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, a Travis County jury convicted Reymundo Cardenas-Gutierrez,49, of two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
For Cardenas-Gutierrez’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, January 12, 2026, and testimony and evidence began the next day. On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the jury deliberated, found him guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and the judge sentenced him to serve four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On May 24, 2025, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cardenas-Gutierrez and charged him with two cases of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for attacking two victims. In July of 2025, he was indicted with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Assistant District Attorneys Clayton Myers and Max Shaps presented the case against Cardenas-Gutierrez with the support of Victim Counselors Sam Rodriguez and Chris Rodriguez Jones, Investigator John Holliday, Paralegal Holly Sonnenberg, and Legal Secretary Daisy Mora Gomez. Travis County Sheriff’s Office Deputy J. Cabrera investigated Cardenas-Gutierrez’s case.
