Travis County Judge Sentences Man Convicted of Assault Family Violence by Strangulation and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, a Travis County jury convicted Justin Gutierrez, 32, of Assault Family Violence by Strangulation and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
For Gutierrez’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, March 2, 2026, and the State began presenting evidence and witnesses on the following day. On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the jury deliberated and found Gutierrez guilty of Assault Family Violence by Strangulation and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the jury sentenced him to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, recommended probation, and asked the judge to finalize his sentence. On April 7, 2026, the judge sentenced him to four years of probation.
On February 24, 2025, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gutierrez and charged him with Assault Family Violence by Strangulation for the offense committed on August 11, 2024.
In June 2025, Gutierrez was indicted with the offenses of Assault Family Violence by Strangulation and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Assistant District Attorneys Max Shaps and Bryssa Rodriguez-Muro presented the case against Gutierrez with the support of Investigator Allen McClure, Paralegal Angela Zepeda, and Legal Secretaries Randi Skelton and Myrna Ruiz. Travis County Sheriff’s Office Detective Christopher Short, Deputy Brad Davis, and Deputy Meagan McLear investigated the case against Gutierrez.
