Travis County District Attorney’s Office Announces Decision to Retry Daniel Sanchez’s Deadly Conduct Case
Travis County, TX — Today, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced its decision to pursue a new trial for Daniel Sanchez on his charge of deadly conduct during a hearing in the 299th Criminal District Court. Sanchez’s new trial is scheduled for August 10, 2026.
On November 17, 2025, a Travis County judge declared a hung jury in Daniel Sanchez’s deadly conduct trial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.
“Our hearts continue to break for the Moonesinghe family, who are still waiting for justice for their son, Rajan,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “Our Civil Rights Unit is prepared to proceed with a new trial and present evidence and facts surrounding the excessive force that led to Rajan Moonesinghe’s death.”
