Travis County Grand Jury Clears Officer Jackson

Travis County, TX — Today, Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced that on Thursday, February 26, 2026, a Travis County Special Grand Jury had concluded its review of the May 17, 2025, officer-involved shooting involving Austin Police Department Officer Joshua Jackson and did not return an indictment for the officer.

On May 17, 2025, Danny Lee Palomino sustained gunshot wounds during an incident involving APD Officer Jackson and later succumbed to his injuries.  

“The Travis County District Attorney’s office takes the work of presenting all facts and evidence to a grand jury very seriously,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “In this case, an independent group of members of the Travis County community heard the evidence and law and decided that Officer Jackson’s conduct was not unlawful.”
