ICYMI: Travis County District Attorney José Garza Joins Coalition to Hold Federal Officers Accountable for Violating State Laws
Travis County, TX — In case you missed it, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced his participation in a coalition of prosecutors that will assist in prosecuting federal law enforcement officers who violate state law. The Project for the Fight Against Federal Overreach was formed in response to growing concerns about warrantless entries, unlawful detentions, and coercive enforcement tactics by federal agents. Its goal is to ensure that constitutional limits on federal power are enforced through lawful institutions.
The coalition will share strategies among prosecutors, provide public updates on efforts to curb unlawful federal conduct, educate the public about available legal paths, and coordinate accountability efforts across jurisdictions.
“I am heartbroken for the family and friends of Renee Nicole Goode and Alex Jeffri Pretti, and for the entire Minneapolis community,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “The repeated acts of violence committed by federal officials across the country are unlawful, immoral, and make us less safe. In Travis County, we will not tolerate unlawful acts of violence or obstruction by ICE agents or any other federal official. Federal officials who engage in unlawful acts in this county will be prosecuted and held accountable by this community.”
