Grand Jury Indicts Former Travis County Tax Office Employees of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity
Travis County, TX — On June 25, 2026, a Travis County grand jury indicted former Travis County Tax Office employees Ana Marina Hernandez and Maira Yesenia Reyes, along with non-tax office employee Edwin Mauricio Hernandez, for the offense of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
The indictment alleges that on October 2, 2025, Ana Marina Hernandez and Maira Yesenia Reyes of the Travis County Tax Office engaged in tampering with governmental records. During the investigation, Ana Marina Hernandez stated that her father, Edwin Mauricio Hernandez, helped carry out the scheme by working with residents who sought unlawful vehicle registrations.
On February 3, 2026, the Travis County Constable’s Office, Precinct 3, charged all three with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with Tampering with a Government Record as the underlying offense.
“We thank our partners at the Travis County Constable’s Office, Precinct 3, and Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector Celia Israel for our ongoing collaboration on this case,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “Holding the defendants accountable for abusing their positions as public servants is critical to maintaining community trust in our local government.”
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office Public Integrity and Complex Cases Unit is prosecuting the case against all three in the 403rd Judicial District Court for Travis County.
“We believe these individuals betrayed the public trust and are grateful to see the criminal justice system will hold them to account. Motor vehicle fraud is rampant in Texas, and it hits our community from many angles. My office isn’t backing down,” said Tax Assessor-Collector Celia Israel. “We will continue to look for innovative ways to catch fraud early, work with our partners in law enforcement and protect Travis County residents from criminal actors.”
