Judge Sentences Man to Life in Prison After Travis County Jury Convicts Him of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit a Sexual Offense
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, a Travis County jury convicted Justin Gorbea, 37, of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit a Sexual Offense.
Jury selection for Gorbea’s trial started on Monday, June 1, 2026, and the State began presenting evidence on the following day. On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the jury deliberated and found Gorbea guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit a Sexual Offense.
On the same day as his conviction, Gorbea asked the judge to determine his punishment, and the judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole on both counts, to be served at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On July 12, 2025, the Austin Police Department arrested Gorbea and charged him with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Sexual Offense. On September 11, 2025, Gorbea was indicted on two counts: Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Sexual Offense and Aggravated Sexual Assault.
Assistant District Attorneys Jacob Swaab, Clayton Myers, and Armit Sharma presented the case against Gorbea with the support of Victim Counselor Kiandra Benson, Investigators Marisa Giglio and John Holliday, Paralegal Missy Martinez, and Legal Secretary Valerie Briones. Austin Police Department Detective Philip Macri investigated the case against Gorbea.
