Travis County DA’s Office Secures Conviction for Man Charged with Assault Family Violence with a Prior Conviction
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, a Travis County jury convicted Michael Jason Sanchez, 34, of Assault Family Violence with a Prior Conviction for Assault Family Violence.
For Mr. Sanchez’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, May 6, 2024, and testimony began the following day. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the jury deliberated and found Mr. Sanchez guilty of Assault Family Violence w/ Prior Conviction for AFV. On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the parties came into an agreement of Mr. Sanchez serving 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in exchange for a waiver of appeal.
On April 13, 2023, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Sanchez and charged him with Assault Family Violence w/ Prior Conviction for AFV. On June 1, 2023, Mr. Sanchez was indicted for the offense of Assault Family Violence w/ Prior Conviction for AFV.
The case against Mr. Sanchez was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Kate Hall and Neha Naik, with the support of Investigators David Austin and Mike Henderson, Victim Counselor Julie Sweeney, Paralegal Missy Martinez, and Legal Secretary Anthony Giles. Austin Police Department Officer Gabriel Escamilla investigated Mr. Sanchez’s case.
