Travis County Judge Declares Hung Jury in Schernik Murder Trial
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — On Friday, February 17, 2023, a Travis County jury could not reach a unanimous verdict in the murder trial of Kelly Lawrence Schernik, 40.
For Mr. Schernik’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, February 13, 2023, and testimony began on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. On Friday, February 17, 2023, the jury deliberated but could not reach a unanimous verdict, and as a result, Judge Brandy Mueller declared a hung jury.
On March 22, 2020, the Cedar Park Police Department arrested Mr. Schernik and charged him with the offense of Aggravated Assault against Jason Sean Robinson, 39. Mr. Schernik’s Aggravated Assault charge was upgraded to Murder upon Mr. Robinson’s death three days later.
On August 18, 2020, Mr. Schernik was indicted for the offense of Murder.
