Travis County Jury Convicts Man of Aggravated Kidnapping and Sexual Assault
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, a Travis County jury convicted Maurys O. Madruga-Mesa, 43, of Aggravated Kidnapping and Sexual Assault.
On Friday, June 20, 2025, a jury was selected, and testimony began on Monday, June 23, 2025, for Mr. Madruga-Mesa’s trial. On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the jury deliberated and found the defendant guilty of Aggravated Kidnapping and Sexual Assault. That same day, the jury returned a punishment verdict of 10 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for his Sexual Assault conviction. Additionally, the jury sentenced him to five years’ confinement in the TDCJ for the Aggravated Kidnapping conviction, but recommended that his sentence be probated. The sentences will be served concurrently.
On September 12, 2024, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Madruga-Mesa and charged him with Sexual Assault. A Travis County grand jury originally indicted Mr. Madruga-Mesa on November 14, 2024, for the offense of Sexual Assault. On April 24, 2025, Mr. Madruga-Mesa’s case was reindicted to add the offense of Aggravated Kidnapping.
Assistant District Attorneys Kate Hall and Jamie Liu presented the case against Mr. Madruga-Mesa with the support of Victim Counselor Kyrsten Engstrom, Investigator Rachael Lacey, Paralegal Amanda Beaver, and Legal Secretaries Anthony Giles, Valerie Briones, and Randi Skelton. Austin Police Department Detective Alfredo Rodriguez investigated Mr. Madruga-Mesa’s case.
