Travis County Jury Convicts Man Charged with Sexual Assault and Attempted Sexual Assault
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, a Travis County jury convicted Omar Cortes-Castillo, 31, of two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault.
Jury selection started on Monday, April 14, 2025, and testimony began the following day. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the jury started deliberations and found Mr. Cortes-Castillo guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the jury assessed his punishment at 10 years to be served at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice but recommended probation. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the judge sentenced Mr. Cortes-Castillo to ten years’ incarceration, probated for eight years.
On October 17, 2022, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mr. Cortes-Castillo and charged him with Sexual Assault.
On November 11, 2022, Mr. Cortes-Castillo was originally indicted for Sexual Assault. On August 27, 2024, Mr. Cortes-Castillo was reindicted with two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault.
Assistant District Attorneys Kate Hall and Jacques Roussel presented the case against Mr. Cortes-Castillo with the support of Victim Counselor Kyrsten Engstrom, Investigator Rachael Lacey, and Paralegal Amanda Beaver. Travis County Sheriff’s Office Detective Timothy Parrish investigated Mr. Cortes-Castillo’s case.
