Travis County Jury Convicts Woman of Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Injury to a Child Causing Bodily Injury
Travis County, TX — On Friday, May 8, 2026, a Travis County jury convicted Brittney Bailey, 33, of one count of Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Injury to a Child Causing Bodily Injury.
Jury selection for Bailey’s trial started on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and the State began presenting evidence on Monday, May 4, 2026. On Friday, May 8, 2026, the jury deliberated and found Bailey guilty of one count of Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Injury to a Child Causing Bodily Injury.
On Monday, May 11, 2026, the jury sentenced Bailey to 40 years for the Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury count and 10 years for the Injury to a Child Causing Bodily Injury count. Both sentences will be served concurrently at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On May 8, 2024, the Austin Police Department arrested Bailey and charged her with two cases of Injury to a Child after she injured her 3-month-old twins. In December 2025, Bailey was reindicted to prepare for her trial to proceed under a single indictment.
Assistant District Attorneys Habon Mohamed and Bridget O’Shaughnessy presented the case against Bailey with the support of Victim Counselor Terrience Greene, Investigator Charles Dobbins, Paralegal Olivia Colvert, and Legal Secretary Randi Skelton. Austin Police Department Detective Chad Honaker investigated the case against Bailey.
