Travis County District Attorney José Garza Releases Response to the Texas Governor’s Latest Proposals
Travis County, TX — Today, Travis County District Attorney José Garza released the following statement in response to the governor’s proposals provided during his press conference.
“These proposals are nothing more than a distraction from the Governor’s litany of failures. Under his leadership, Texans are paying more for groceries, public schools are losing funding, and too many Texans lack access to healthcare and mental healthcare. These failures make us less safe. The Governor and his allies would rather play politics with our safety than work to deliver on solutions that actually keep Texans safe.
Here in Travis County, crime rates have steadily declined because we have prioritized accountability for people who commit harm, protected survivors of sexual violence, expanded victim services, increased violence prevention efforts, and worked to meet the needs of victims of crime.
It has been the privilege of my career to be elected twice to serve the people of Travis County. I am deeply proud to represent this community and to call it home. I promise that we will continue to fight for your safety, for your democracy, and to end the continuous takeover of our home and local government.”
