Phone Scam Calls Reported to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office
Travis County, TX—The Travis County District Attorney’s Office wants residents to be aware of a phone scam in which individuals pose as representatives from the Office.
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office has received complaints from two residents who reported a phone call from someone pretending to be a TCDA staff member and threatening them with legal action if money was not paid immediately. It is believed that these calls started on Friday, March 29, 2024. In both cases, the scammer used the correct name of a TCDA staff member and made it appear as though he was calling from the TCDA office by using a spoofing app that showed the TCDA main number on the victim’s caller ID. In one case, the victim paid the scammer $1,200 to a Bitcoin account.
