Travis County DA’s Office Provides Summary of Cases Tried the Week of September 18, 2023, to September 22, 2023
Travis County, TX — During the week of September 18, 2023, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office tried four cases of alleged acts of violence before Travis County juries. Of those trials, two resulted in convictions, one resulted in an acquittal, and one resulted in a mistrial.
On Thursday, September 21, 2023, a Travis County jury convicted Christian Andres Lozano, 50, of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact and Sexual Assault of a Child.
For Mr. Lozano’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, September 18, 2023, and testimony began on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. On Thursday, September 21, 2023, the jury deliberated and found Mr. Lozano guilty of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact and three counts of Sexual Assault of a Child.
On August 21, 2021, Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Mr. Lozano and charged him with the offense of Sexual Assault of a Child.
On April 25, 2023, Mr. Lozano was indicted for the offenses of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact, five counts of Sexual Assault Child, and three counts of Prohibited Sexual Conduct with Ancestor / Descendant.
In a separate case, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, a Travis County jury convicted Bryan Madrid-Cruz, 21, of Robbery.
For Mr. Madrid-Cruz’s trial, jury selection started on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and testimony began the same day.
On Thursday, September 21, 2023, the jury deliberated and found Mr. Madrid-Cruz guilty of Robbery.
On September 13, 2022, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Madrid-Cruz and charged him with two separate aggravated robberies, which took place on December 8, 2021, and September 8, 2022.
On November 7, 2022, Mr. Madrid-Cruz was indicted for the two separate Aggravated Robbery cases.
“Our office takes acts of violence seriously and is committed to holding people who commit violent crimes accountable,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “We hope these outcomes bring closure and peace to the victims and their families.”
In another case, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, a Travis County jury acquitted Kiondre Marshall, 22, of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
For Mr. Marshall’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, September 18, 2023, and testimony began on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. On Thursday, September 21, 2023, the jury deliberated and found Mr. Marshall not guilty of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
On August 16, 2022, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Marshall and charged him with the murder of Anthony Ladell Blaylock, 30.
On November 8, 2022, Mr. Marshall was indicted for the offense of Murder, and on March 29, 2023, he was indicted for the offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
In a separate case, on Friday, September 22, 2023, a Travis County jury did not reach a unanimous verdict in the murder trial of Yong Yoon Kim, aka Paul Q. Allen, 32.
For Mr. Allen’s trial, jury selection started on Monday, September 18, 2023, and testimony began on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. On Friday, September 22, 2023, the jury deliberated but could not reach a unanimous verdict, and as a result, Judge Blazey declared a mistrial.
On January 22, 2022, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Allen and charged him with Capital Murder for the deaths of Christopher Rivers, 38, and Nathan Limoge, 28.
On August 15, 2023, Mr. Allen was subsequently reindicted for two counts of Murder.
