Travis County DA’s Office Secures Convictions for Acts of Violence
Travis County, TX — On Friday, August 2, 2024, a Travis County jury convicted Kendric Knatte, 34, of Tampering with Evidence.
For Mr. Knatte’s trial, he was charged with count 1 of Murder and count 2 of Tampering with Evidence. A jury was selected on Monday, July 29, 2024, and testimony began the following day. On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the jury began deliberating. On Friday, August 2, 2024, the jury could not reach a unanimous decision on count 1 of Murder, but they found him guilty of count 2 of Tampering with Evidence.
On Monday, August 5, 2024, before the punishment hearing began for the Tampering with Evidence conviction, both parties came to an agreement. The defendant agreed to a 10-year sentence to be served at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the Tampering with Evidence conviction and pleaded guilty to an amended count 1, reducing the Murder to Manslaughter. Part of the agreement included Mr. Knatte serving 5 years on the Manslaughter count. Both sentences will run concurrently.
On May 27, 2020, the Pflugerville Police Department charged Mr. Knatte for the murder of Frankia Corinthia Mathurin, 32, that took place on May 26, 2020. On August 18, 2020, Mr. Knatte was indicted for count 1 of Murder and count 2 of Tampering with Evidence.
Assistant District Attorneys Erika Hansen, Jacob Swaab, and Victor Erbring tried the case against Mr. Knatte with the support of Investigator Fred Spencer, Victim Counselor Anna Trujillo, and Paralegal Holly Sonnenberg. Pflugerville Police Department Detective David Morrow investigated Mr. Knatte’s case.
