Travis County District Attorney’s Office Secures Guilty Verdict For Man Charged with Murder
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, a Travis County jury convicted Deondre White, 21, of Murder.
Jury selection began on Monday, August 28, 2023, with testimony starting on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the jury deliberated and found Mr. White guilty of Murder.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023, sentencing occurred in a separate proceeding where the prosecution and defense presented additional evidence. First-degree murder carries a punishment range of 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
After the presentations from both parties, the jury members assessed his punishment at 30 years to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On June 24, 2021, the Killeen Police Department arrested Mr. White for the murder of Douglas Kantor, 25, which took place on June 12, 2021.
On August 30, 2021, Mr. White was indicted for the offenses of Murder and fourteen counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
“Our office is committed to holding people who commit acts of gun violence accountable,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “In a split second, the lives of 15 people were changed forever by a senseless act of gun violence. We hope this verdict and sentence brings closure and peace to the victims and their families.”
