Travis County District Attorney’s Office Secures Guilty Verdict for Man Charged with Murder

Travis County, TX — Today, Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced that on Monday, December 4, 2023, a Travis County jury convicted Dietrich White, 49, of Murder.

Jury selection began on Monday, November 27, 2023, with testimony starting on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. On Monday, December 4, 2023, the jury deliberated and found Mr. White guilty of Murder. On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the jury members assessed his punishment at life in prison to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

On November 16, 2018, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. White and charged him with the murder of his father, Richard White, which took place on November 11, 2018.

On December 1, 2022, Mr. White was reindicted for the offense of Murder.

“Our office takes acts of violence seriously and is committed to holding people who commit violent crimes accountable,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “We hope this outcome brings closure and peace to the victim’s family who sought justice in this case.”
