Travis County DA José Garza Announces Leadership Changes
Travis County, TX — Today, Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced several structural and leadership changes in the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.
Current Violence Prevention, Juvenile, and Mental Health Director Rickey Jones has been promoted to Senior Director Over Trial Court, Violence Prevention, Mental Health, Civil Rights Unit, Child Abuse, Civil Division, and the Child Protection Team. He will report to First Assistant Trudy Strassburger.
DA Garza also announced that the current director of Public Integrity and Complex Crimes, Jackie Wood, will be retiring after a long tenure serving the people of Travis County- first as an Assistant District Attorney in TCDA, then as a defense attorney, and then after she joined the Garza Administration in 2021.
Director Wood will be replaced by Holly Taylor. Ms. Taylor is currently the Assistant Director of the Civil Rights Unit. Ms. Taylor is renowned for her appellate and litigation skills; she started her career as an ADA with TCDA, serving in the Criminal Court of Appeals and returning under the Garza Administration. Since joining, Taylor has taken on some of the most serious and complex cases in the office.
Also joining TCDA is Christian Henricksen, the Former First Assistant of Bexar County. Director Henricksen will be in Trial Court and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the implementation of Counsel at First Appearance, a growing pre-indictment unit, and Violence Prevention Programs.
“As we begin to prepare for our second term, we look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the people of Travis County in the best way possible. I am grateful to Rickey Jones, Holly Taylor, and Christian Henricksen for taking on their new roles. I am also incredibly grateful to Jackie Wood, who, throughout her long career in Travis County, has left an indelible mark. Her work ethic, sound judgment, and talented trial skills will be sorely missed, but I wish her all the best in her retirement,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza.
