Travis County DA’s Office Secures Guilty Verdict for Man Charged with Murder
Travis County, TX — On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, a Travis County jury convicted Deddrick Amerson, 45, of Murder.
For Mr. Amerson’s trial, jury selection began on Monday, April 15, 2024, with testimony starting the following day. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the jury deliberated for two hours and found Mr. Amerson guilty of Murder. On the same day, all parties agreed on his punishment of 25 years to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice with a waiver of all appeals.
On October 28, 2022, the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Amerson and charged him with the murder of Edarius Dremar Johnson, 36, that took place on July 21, 2022. On November 13, 2023, Mr. Amerson was subsequently reindicted for the offense of Murder and Tampering with a Witness.
Assistant District Attorneys Nancy Nemer, Jacques Roussel, and Emmanuel Ojomo tried the case against Mr. Amerson with the support of Investigator Mike Henderson, Victim Counselor Raquel Pompey, Paralegal Raquel Sanchez, and Legal Secretary Chardell Clark. APD Detective Christopher Anderson investigated Mr. Amerson’s case.
