Travis County DA’s Office Secures Guilty Verdict for Man Charged with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, and Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child
Travis County, TX — Today, Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced that on Friday, January 12, 2024, a Travis County jury convicted Sergio Nava-Sanchez, 42, of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, and Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.
Jury selection began on Monday, January 8, 2024, with testimony starting on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. On Friday, January 12, 2024, the jury deliberated and, on the same day, found Mr. Nava-Sanchez guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, and Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child. The jury members assessed his punishment at 70 years to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Nava-Sanchez on November 23, 2021, and charged him with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child for the offenses committed between 2016 and 2020. In October 2023, Mr. Nava-Sanchez was subsequently reindicted in preparation for the trial.
The case against Mr. Nava-Sanchez was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Daniella Garcia and John Castro, with the support of Investigator Tanya Thomas, Victims Counselor Lolita Rattler, Paralegal Stephanie Montes, and Legal Secretary Jennifer Villanueva. Mr. Nava-Sanchez’s case was investigated jointly by APD Detective Valentin De Los Santos and our Child Abuse Division.
